Pilot and passenger identified as the two killed in Ottawa plane crash

OTTAWA — The two men killed in the crash of a light plane in Ottawa Wednesday night have been identified as pilot Dr. Barry Stratton and passenger Jacques Domey, according to the manager of the Rockcliffe Flying Club where they both were members.

Stratton, 55, is an Ottawa dentist. Domey is in his 60s, manager Simon Garrett said Thursday morning. They were part owners of the aircraft, along with three other men.   Read more...

Searchers find wreckage of crashed helicopter in B.C.

The wreckage of a helicopter missing since it left the Lower Mainland Friday evening en route to Kelowna was found by searchers Tuesday afternoon.

Captain Eric Niemi of 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron based in Comox said the Aerospatiale A350 craft had crashed in rugged terrain close to Coquihalla Mountain, east of the Coquihalla Highway, about 35 kilometres north of Hope.

The pilot, 61-year old Rod Phillipson, did not survive the impact.   Read more...

Kienholz named as deceased in Nakusp plane crash

Nelson's James Forrest Kienholz has been identified as the man killed in the small float plane crash near Nakusp last Wednesday.

Kienholz, 64, was longtime Leafs scorekeeper and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and snowshoeing in the winter.

From the 1970s to 1990s Kienholz played goal and defence in the Western International and Kootenay Soccer Leagues for the Nelson Savoy and Royals teams.   Read more...

3 adults, 1 child die in helicopter crash south of Quebec City

ST-FERDINAND, Que. - Four people have died in a helicopter crash in a wooded area south of Quebec City.

Officials say the helicopter went down at 9:15 p.m. Saturday near St-Ferdinand, some 115 kilometres from the provincial capital.

Sask. woman died after exiting plane, walking into propeller

A 40-year-old woman from the Annaheim area had just completed a flight when she was hit by an airplane propeller and killed at the Humboldt airport.

RCMP on Monday released further details about the accident, which took place Saturday around 11 a.m. According to police, the woman had exited the passenger side of the stationary Cessna 210 and was heading around the nose of the plane when she walked into the propeller, which was still turning.   Read more...

Plane crash victims "were full of life," brother says of pair

Kevin Sorken never learned to fly. He always had two little brothers to do it for him.

"I don't need to be a pilot -I had two brothers who were pilots," Kevin said on Sunday.

Dean and Lee Sorken were killed Friday night when their plane crashed in a farmer's field 22 kilometres northeast of Stettler, about 100 kilometres from Killam, where they grew up and were headed for a family wedding on Saturday.   Read more...
